Augmented Reality Assistant for biopsies

Plain Concepts has developed a medical assistant based on augmented reality for the Integrated Health Organization of  Araba (Basque Country). This assistant will guide doctors and give them all the information available on the patient to help them during the biopsy.

One of its main features is that it allows you to scan the patient’s QR code, connect to the hospital’s PACS and send the doctor all the necessary information such as CT images which would be reproduced in 3D by the HoloLens before performing the biopsy.

In this video, you can watch a demo of this innovative application developed by the research team at Plain Concepts using the 3D Wave Engine.

One of the main advantages highlighted by Mª Ángeles García Fidalgo, Head of the Medical Physics and Radiological Protection Service of the Health Organisation, in the talk given at the Tedx in Vitoria-Gasteiz on 14th April, is that “it will not change the way of working. The same things are done, but more EASILY and with more information”.

The information will be given by the glasses that will show the images of the interior of the body projected on the real patient. With simple air gestures or voice commands, the doctor will be able to manage these projections until he chooses the puncture site.

The software developed for these glasses guides the doctor as if it were a car GPS, indicating where on the skin he should prick, with what angle and at what depth”.
